Clean Water Network Design for Refugee Camps

چکیده

Motivated by the recent rise in need for refugee camps, we address one of key infrastructural problems establishment process: The clean water network design problem. We formulate problem as a biobjective integer programming and determine locations source, distribution units overall (pipelines), considering objectives minimizing cost (total length) maximizing accessibility walking distance) simultaneously. solve resulting model using exact heuristic approaches that find set (or subset) Pareto solutions approximate solutions, respectively. demonstrate applicability our approach on real-life Gaziantep camp provide detailed comparison solution approaches. novel propose will help decision makers to make more informed decisions trade-off between two criteria accessibility.

Agent-based modeling for Humanitarian Issues: Disease and Refugee Camps

The displacement of people in times of crises represents a challenge for humanitarian agencies. This challenge is especially acute within developing countries, which home the majority of displaced people. Within this paper, we will demonstrate a spatially explicit agent based model that explores the spread of cholera in the Dadaab refugee camps. Poor sanitation and housing conditions contribute...
